Verification and Copyright

Verification and copyright is an issue that must be dealt with when publishing in cyber space or anywhere else. Teachers have effective strategies for verifying student work in the classroom and teach students how to use bibliographies.
The same rules apply in cyber space. Always stress to students that they should not put up artwork belonging to an artist without permission and acknowledgement. Lori Gloyd, for example, has provided permission for me to use the mandala images on the Global Teacher pages, and I am formally acknowledging that this is her artwork.
Always insist that students create bibliographies, even if they source material on the Web and teach them about copyright.
When publishing student work make sure you have ‘informed approval’ from them to put their work into a world wide forum. If students are in primary school it is probably a good idea to have permission from their parents.
